How to play Powerball
Powerball is a multi-state lottery drawing held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday night. To play, a ticket buyer selects five numbers from 1 to 69 for the white balls, plus one additional number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball. Tickets can also be purchased with a computer-generated Quick Pick if a player prefers not to choose their own numbers.
The jackpot is won by matching all five white ball numbers plus the Powerball. Eight additional prize tiers pay out for partial matches, down to matching the Powerball alone. Jackpot winners can choose between an annuity paid over 29 years or a reduced lump-sum cash payment, both before applicable federal and state taxes.
